Brethren, We have been invited by Carter Blood Care to host another blood drive on Saturday, August 16. We had a great blood drive in May, attaining 104% of our target for the drive. Contributions from blood drives sponsored by East Fork Lodge over the last 2 years helped save the lives of as many as 103 children. Statistically, the Texas population consistently uses more blood than its citizens donate and shortages are still being reported by local blood banks. It is estimated that local hospitals require over 1,000 pints of blood daily. Obtaining blood from other states is not only costly, but it can delay critical life saving surgeries and treatments. Through the "Gift of Life" program, we can make a difference and ensure the children of the Scottish Rite Hospital have a ready supply of blood to meet their treatment needs. I am asking the Brothers of East Fork Lodge to step up to the challenge and make this the best blood drive yet. We have obtained a commitment from Carter Blood Care to provide 2 buses to collect donations at this blood drive. In return, they have asked us to commit to donating at least 40 pints. To facilitate the process of donating blood and minimize the wait time, we will be providing a sign up sheet with time slots for donation appointments. This will ensure we are able to meet our goal and lessen the inconvenience to our donors. The appointment times will begin at 10am and will continue to 4pm. As we announced in the June Stated Meeting, I am asking each member to commit to at least one pint of blood. This can be from a relative, friend or neighbor, if you are unble to donate. I am confident the members of East Fork Lodge are up to the challenge as evidenced by the verbal commitments we received at the Stated Meeting. If you cannot donate, and cannot find a friend or neighbor to donate your pint, there is still an opportunity for you to contribute to this worthy cause. We will need assistance coordinating donors at the buses, providing assistance completing information cards and passing out snow cones. We will also need help contacting members to complete the sign up sheet. So as you can see, there is plenty for all to do. I will begin filling out the sign up sheet at the next Stated Meeting. Please feel free to call me at 469-964-9106, if you want to get a specific time. I'm certain the time slots will fill up fast and you want to get in early to get the best choices.
